Cassandro tells the true story of Saúl Armendáriz, a gay wrestler from El Paso who became famous in lucha libre as Cassandro, el Exótico. With his flamboyant persona, he challenged the sport’s macho stereotypes and redefined what it means to be a hero in and out of the ring. The film, available on Amazon Prime Video, is both an inspiring portrait of resilience and a celebration of self-expression.
Our work
Project carried out for Panorama, with director Roger Ross Williams and casting director Luis Rosales. We led outreach and character scouting within the world of lucha libre at a national level, preparing real-life wrestlers as characters for a period film. Our collaboration spanned cities such as Mexico City, Chihuahua, Monterrey, Tijuana, and El Paso, Texas. We worked closely with the Casting and Extras departments to help build the full cinematic universe.
